Frequently asked questions

Grouped by what people are actually trying to work out: what it costs, when to book it, what you get, and what happens if it goes wrong.

Cost and quoting

How much does a post-renovation clean cost?

It depends on the size of the property, the number of levels, how heavy the dust is and what residue the trades have left behind. Two identical floor plans can differ by a factor of two once you account for grout haze, protective film and the state of the joinery. We quote from photos or an inspection rather than publishing a rate that would be wrong for most jobs.

Why won’t you give me a price over the phone?

We can give you a range once we understand the job. What we will not do is give a firm number without seeing the site, because that is how people end up with a quote that changes on the day. Photos take two minutes and remove the guesswork for both of us.

Do you charge by the hour or by the job?

We scope the job and quote it, and the quote states the hours it is based on. We do not start open-ended work.

What if the job turns out to be bigger than the photos showed?

We tell you before we start, not after. If what we find on site is materially different from what was quoted (a room that was not in the photos, trades still on site, damage that needs different treatment), we stop and agree the change with you first.

Is a renovation clean more expensive than a normal house clean?

Yes, considerably, for the same floor area. It is detail work rather than area work: residue removal, cleaning inside every cupboard, hand-detailing edges, and allowing for airborne dust to settle and be cleaned again. A quote that prices it like a standard clean has not understood the job.

Timing and booking

When should I book?

As soon as you have a move-in or handover date, even if it might move. Renovation dates slip constantly and we would rather hold a window and adjust it than try to find you one at short notice.

How long does the clean take?

A renovated kitchen and bathroom typically runs into a full day. A whole-home builders clean is usually multi-day. A two-storey rebuild is scoped in days with a team. Your quote states the hours.

The trades have not completely finished. Can you still come?

Yes, but as staged work rather than a final clean. Cleaning a room a trade will return to means paying to clean it twice.

Can you work weekends or outside normal hours?

We work seven days, 6:00am to 10:00pm, subject to building and site access hours. On live sites early starts and evening work are often the only way the clean is not competing with trades for the same space.

What if my date moves?

Tell us as soon as you know and we move the booking. Late notice is the only thing that causes a problem, because a window given up at twenty-four hours’ notice is hard to replace.

What is and is not included

Do you clean inside the cupboards?

Yes. Inside every cupboard, drawer and wardrobe is standard scope, because that is where the dust that ruins your crockery on day one is sitting.

Do you take the builders’ rubbish away?

Yes, as an optional extra. Waste our own cleaning generates is always removed as standard. Renovation rubbish (offcuts, packaging, plasterboard and general debris) is quoted separately because it carries its own handling and disposal costs. Ask for it when you send your photos and it goes on the same quote.

Do you clean the windows?

Internal glass, frames, sills and tracks are standard. External glass at ground level where it is safely accessible is usually included. External windows above ground level, or anything needing height access equipment, is quoted separately.

Do you do ovens, carpets, pressure cleaning or tile and grout restoration?

Yes: oven interiors, carpet steam cleaning, pressure cleaning of driveways and external surfaces, and tile and grout restoration are all available as optional extras. They are quoted separately from the standard scope, so ask for what you need when you send your photos and it all goes on the one quote.

Can you get paint spots and adhesive off new surfaces?

In most cases yes. Paint, plaster, adhesive and sticker residue on glass and hard surfaces is standard scope. What we will not do is force a mark that risks damaging the surface underneath. If we find something like that we stop and tell you rather than scratching new glass or stone.

What is grout haze?

The fine cement film left on tiles after grouting. It is not dirt, it does not come off with a normal wash, and it needs the right product and the right timing. Left for months it becomes much harder to remove. If your new tiles look permanently cloudy, that is what you are looking at.

On the day

Do I need to be there?

No. We need access, power and water. We do ask that you or your site contact are available for the walkthrough at the end, in person, or by phone with photos.

What do you need from me?

Access for the booked window, working power and water, and the areas we are cleaning clear of trades and their materials. For apartments, lift and loading dock bookings and any building manager requirements. Tell us in advance about delicate finishes, uncured paint, heritage features or pets on site.

Will the dust come back after you leave?

A properly scoped clean allows for the second settling of airborne dust, so you should not need a second visit. What can still happen is dust released later from ducts or from a room that was sealed during the works. Tell us about any closed-off areas so we include them.

What if something is missed?

Raise it at the walkthrough and we fix it while we are still on site with people and equipment. That is what the walkthrough is for. Anything within the agreed written scope gets rectified.

About us

Which areas do you cover?

Metropolitan Melbourne, from our base in Southbank. See the areas we serve. If your suburb is not listed, ring us. It usually comes down to the size of the job rather than the postcode.

How many reviews do you have?

Fourteen on Google, all five stars, verified 3 August 2026. It is a small number and we would rather publish it accurately than round it up.

Are you insured?

Yes. Renovation Cleaning carries $10 million public liability insurance, and a certificate of currency is available on request. Ask for it with your quote and we will send it with the paperwork.

Do you offer a guarantee?

Yes, the Final Walkthrough Guarantee. Half an hour before we finish, we walk the property with you room by room and check every part of the clean together. Anything missed, or not cleaned to standard and still cleanable, is fixed on the spot before we pack up. You sign off on the job while we are still on site, so there is nothing to chase afterwards.

How do payments work?

Full payment secures your booking. If you prefer to split it, pay 50% to confirm the booking and the balance when the team arrives on the day. We accept card, bank transfer and cash, and the amount is always confirmed on your written quote before anything starts.

How long have you been doing this?

More than ten years in the cleaning industry. Renovation Cleaning is the construction and renovation arm of a family cleaning business run by Mimmo and Nancy from Southbank.
